WHAT'S A WAYFINDER?

When choosing the name for this therapy center, I wanted a name that would reflect the importance of self-empowerment and would stress that the final destination of "success" is completely up to the individual and not based on unrealistic and meaningless societal norms and expectations. A Wayfinder is someone that sails the open water with a destination in mind using nothing but natural landmarks like the sun, the stars, and ocean swells to direct them in their journey. After years of observing and participating in interventions that over prompted or over guided a person to the point where they stopped making progress, felt defeated, and lost sight of their own journey, I wanted to create a space where we can go back to the basic fundamentals of development. From a therapy lense, that meant play, mutual respect, connection, and allowing the client to take the lead... it is, of course, their journey. As a therapist, it is my job to provide those "natural landmarks" that will meet the individual where they are and allow them to move at the developmental pace that is right for them, eventually allowing them to feel empowered and confident to trust their inner compass in the rest of their journey to the destination they are always capable of reaching.

NELLIE FLYNN, M.S. CCC-SLP

Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist/Owner

I am a Bilingual Spanish-English speaking Speech-Language Pathologist with a passion for my job and the individuals that I work with. I have years of experience working with autistic and other Neurodivergent individuals in furthering their language development. I have a specific passion for working with individuals with Childhood Apraxia of Speech as well as Gestalt Language Processors. I have specialized training in sensory processing and gestalt language development. I work closely with Marge Blanc, the author of "Natural Language Acquisition on the Autism Spectrum" to help therapists and parents across the country feel empowered to aid their GLP friends in developing language. I believe in a relationship-based, holistic approach to therapy that looks deeper than surface level behaviors to get to the true "why" behind what we may be seeing. I will always advocate for my clients when needed. I value connection and trust within my sessions to allow each individual to feel safe to be their authentic selves.
